| Silence in the Square |
![]() Thank you to everyone who joined us in Trafalgar Square on Tuesday 11 November 2008. Ten thousand people stood shoulder to shoulder in a rarely silent London and together reflected in silence on the human cost of conflict. The Two Minute Silence has been observed on Armistice Day since the end of the First World War; but with troops on active duty in Iraq, Afghanistan and other trouble spots around the world today, the Two Minute Silence remains as relevant today as ever. In 2008 it also marks the 90th Anniversary of the end of the First World War. The Legion would also like to thank the performers who provided the prelude to the 11am observance:
The event concluded with spectators placing poppy petals in the fountains of Trafalgar Square, as a gesture of reflection and hope. More photos are available on the main Legion website. ![]() |
