Aron Shelton

Aron SheltonAron Shelton, 27, from Bridlington, East Yorkshire held the rank of Private in the 2nd Battalion the Mercian Regiment. Aron had his leg amputated in 2008, following an incident in Afghanistan when the vehicle he and his mates were travelling in hit a roadside bomb.  He has been advised he'll most probably lose the other leg in the near future.

When his Disability Living Allowance was reduced due to him earnestly filling in a form to say 'on a good day he could walk 400 metres', the Legion intervened and represented him at a Tribunal heard in September 2011.  The appeal was successful and his allowance, which pays for a car, was returned to him.

"The support and advice I've received has been second to none. Putting on a poppy for me is about remembering the ultimate sacrifice my mates and others like them made.  I'm still here, I'm getting married, I'm looking ahead- it could've been a lot worse."
