Mobile Phones
We're always looking for new ways to promote the Poppy Appeal and try to embrace the latest technology when we can.
In 2009, as well as being able to donate via your mobile phone, we introduced a special iPhone app.
iPhone Mobile Poppy app
Available to download on any iPhone or iPod touch device until Remembrance Day, the Mobile Poppy app is an innovative and interactive take on the traditional symbol of Remembrance.
It features amongst other things, a poppy that will grow incrementally every day from the date of download, reaching full maturity and blossoming on Wednesday 11 November at 11.00am. It can then be rejuvenated to regrow for another month.
Other features of the application include a watering can to help you keep your poppy healthy during Remembrancetide, a selection of backgrounds and poems including the famous, 'In Flanders' Fields', a day and night feature and most importantly of all, the option of inviting others to partake in this unique way of showing support for our Armed Forces community.
There are two versions of the Mobile Poppy application available from Apple iTunes:
Gold Edition includes all features, plus one extra custom background - available for 59p.
Platinum Edition includes all features, plus 4 extra custom backgrounds - available for £2.99.
Donate by texting
Making a donation to the Poppy Appeal couldn't be easier. Just text the word POPPY to 70222.
Texts cost £1.50 plus your standard network message charge and at least £1.00* goes directly to The Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal.
Regretfully the Poppy wallpaper offered in previous years is unavailable this year due to changes in text donation on charity short codes.
Please obtain bill payers permission. The Customer Service number is 0844 991 0078. All calls to this number will cost 5p per minute.
Service provided by The Royal British Legion. By using this service you agree that we may contact you for future campaigns, unless you send STOP to 70222. * Most text donations will generate at least £1 to the Poppy Appeal, text donations from Virgin will be lower than £1.
Hero phone for heroes
HTC and Orange have joined forces to develop a mobile phone specifically for the Armed Forces community. The serving or ex-Service community can purchase a Hero handset from most Orange retail outlets. For every mobile phone that gets sold during the months of October and November, Orange will making a donation of £50.00.
